Three Reasons We Care About Women
One day the LORD Jesus Christ, tired from walking, sat by Jacob’s Well, and chatted with a Samaritan woman.
His disciples were shocked at the spectacle of Him talking alone with a woman. Jn. 4:27 KJV;
And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
“Why bother with women?” was the unspoken question on their minds, “An outcast Samaritan woman, and one living in sin, to boot!”
How unseemly, what would people think, this could damage His reputation, and get Him into even more hot water with the religious crowd in Jerusalem.
The question reveals the gulf between the mind of man, and the mind of Christ.
Why waste time with the women?
What use are women and girls to God?
They should be like fridges and washing machines: Stay in the kitchen and work quietly.
Most of the world still thinks this way; many nations have the second-class status of women enshrined in their laws.
Even those that pay lip-service to gender-equality, retain an overt socio-cultural bias, relegating girls and women, and valuing them as mere chattels.
Jesus doesn’t let local taboos inhibit Him from esteeming women the same as men, because He made both for His love: He loves them the same.
He wants them equally, paid the identical price for each of us whatever; sex, skin colour, nationality, education, achievements, or abilities.
Why We Care About Women
1) Because Jesus does: He counts them equal to men
The Holy Bible is emphatic that God the Father is male, Jesus is male, and the Holy Spirit is male, but Gen. 1:27 KJV tells us;
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
We never tire of hearing His word, but read this in the Holy Spirit and revelation flows like a divine waterfall.
Let Him take you beyond the mundane questions of corporeal male and female images, and show you more of the purpose of God in making humanity male and female.
The Holy Spirit hints in Eph. 5:31-32 KJV;
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
It’s a tantalizing glimpse isn’t it? I could say more, but I’ll not go beyond what is written.
The point is; God made woman in His image, as well as man, both are intrinsic to the consummation of the Creator’s redemptive plan.
Both are equal in God’s mind.
That is why Jesus cares about women, the same as He does about men.
And that is why we do too.
Why bother about women?
2) Because they respond to the Gospel more than men
More women get saved than men.
That’s a fact you soon discover whilst street-witnessing.
That is why two thirds of the body of Christ, the church, is female.
Down the centuries, that means far more women make it to Heaven than men.
Isn’t that very interesting?
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Prov. 11:30
The wise win souls, and wise soul-winners have learned not to neglect the women.
Why bother with women?
3) Because they make wonderful evangelists
The first person chosen by Jesus to share the Good News of His resurrection was a woman: An Asian woman was the first evangelist. (See Was Jesus Christ Asian?) Jn. 20:17-18 KJV;
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
Let’s remember too, this is the woman Christ cast seven demons out of.
Christ cared about a helpless demon-possessed woman, bound in sin, set her completely free with a word, and then made her His first evangelist. (Mk. 16:9-11)
That’s Jesus: That’s God!
We worship and weep at His love and mercy.
And notice the men “believers” she witnessed to… didn’t believe her.
It’s in The Book, so cannot be denied. (Mk. 16:11)
The Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well evangelised a city with her simple testimony.
She testified to the men, and brought them to Christ. Jn. 4:28-30 KJV;
The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
These men trusted her word, believed on Christ, and God came and ministered to the city in person. Jn. 4:39-42 KJV;
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
That is why Jesus bothered with women.
- They are equal with men in God’s opinion.
- They are more responsive to the Gospel than men.
- They make powerful evangelists who get results.
