Who Do You Say I Am?
Q: Jesus wanted people to believe in who He was, and what He said He is. Why then, did He perform miracles that proved who He was?
A: The question implies there’s an inherent contradiction in God’s word, but there are no contradictions, or errors in the Holy Bible, the KJV, which is God’s inerrant written word in English.
Stray from it at your peril to your eternal loss.
Supposed “anomalies” are always caused by the reader using a modern corrupted “Bible”, and / or using their limited understanding, instead of attending to The Divine Teacher: The Holy Ghost.
In John 14:26 KJV, God came and promised;
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Halleluia! What a thrill His words give our hearts through the indwelling Teacher: The Holy Ghost.
The answer in this case is straight forward.
Christ’s Miracles Validate His Word
From Genesis to Revelation of the Holy Bible Almighty God has manifested Himself to humanity through His Word; first to Israel (the Hebrews and Jews), now also to Gentiles (non-Jews), under the New Covenant.
Only One Way
In order to be accepted and at peace with Him, sinners must repent from their unbelief, and trust His Word.
That was the only way Jews could be saved under The Mosaic Law, and it is the only way a sinner can be saved today under the New Covenant.
This was made clear when Almighty God came from Heaven, two thousand years ago, in the form of Jewish man; The LORD Jesus Christ: The Living Word of God made Flesh.
Let’s read out loud from the Holy Bible, John 1:1-14 KJV;
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.[6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
[7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
[8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
[9] That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
[10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
[11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
[12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
[13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Almighty God Manifested in the Flesh
All the fulness of the Godhead that can be contained within the human frame was manifested in Christ. Col. 2:8-9 KJV;
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Think long about that.
How often have you heard sinners ask mockingly, “Why doesn’t somebody come from heaven to tell us about God?”
Now you know how to answer them, don’t you?
God’s Word in Action
His words were Father’s words, His acts were Father’s will in action. He came to show us what God requires of us.
What does God ask of you?
His disciples wanted Him to show them the Father, The LORD replied, Jn. 14:10-11 KJV;
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
He was telling them it was Father God speaking, and working miracles, through Him, not He Himself, and pointed to the miracles as evidence of the truth of His words.
If you wish to know God, you must know The LORD Jesus Christ intimately: There’s no other way to God, Jn. 14:6 KJV;
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
He grew living under the Old Covenant, limiting Himself to the likeness of sinful humanity, yet never succumbed to sin: Not once. Phil 2:6-8 KJV;
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
He lived in intimate fellowship with Father God, as we, by the grace of God, are now able to under the New Covenant.
He did what Father told Him to do, said what Father told Him to say, in order to reveal to sinful man what real God was like. Halleluia!
He said in Jn. 10:37-38 KJV;
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
Similarly in Jn. 5:19 KJV;
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
The miracles were done by Our Creator to confirm His Word: Miracles still confirm His Word Today for those who really repent and believe on Him, because God’s Only Begotten Son has never changed, Heb. 13:8 KJV;
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
When He healed the sick and miracles occurred it was because Father told Him to.
Not my will, but thine, be done. was His constant prayer all His life on Earth, as it ought to be for every believer.
Who Is LORD of your Life?
Who is in charge of your life, who is on the driving seat of your heart?
Is Christ really your Lord?
Christ warned constantly that self-centred sinners perish in this life, and spend the next in eternal Hell.
That is why Father sent His Only Begotten Son, so that you could be redeemed by believing on His Living Word, and following Him, instead of your self.
Jesus said, Jn. 3:16-17 KJV;
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Believing is Doing
To believe God’s word is to do it wholeheartedly, because you love the LORD, anything less is self deception, and useless to save anyone.
Finally, at the end of His earth ministry, God-made-Flesh laid down His sinless life to seal the New Covenant with His Blood.
He went to Hell bearing all your sin and mine, taking the punishment we deserve, in order to set us free from; sin, guilt, condemnation, sickness, infirmity, and death.
On the third day, because He had paid our sin-debt once and for all, He was raised from the grave to show that He had paid the full price of our salvation.
For a sinner to receive the benefit of redemption God set the condition that they must repent from unbelief in His Word, and believe on Him: The LORD Jesus Christ.
When they really believe in their heart, wholeheartedly, they prove it by their obedience to His written word.
Make-believers Fool Only Themselves
Mental assent is useless to save anybody: You must be born again, and that only happens when God reveals His Living Word to a sinner, and they begin to follow Him with all their heart.
When that occurs, each becomes a righteous new creature, who quits sin completely, and glorifies the LORD Jesus Christ, because they have been born of God’s Spirit, and love Him.
Today is The Day of Salvation
No amount of religion will give this blessed experience; it comes only through receiving the Living Word of God, and following Him anointed by His Holy Ghost.
I challenge you in the Name of the LORD, to read the Gospel of John, in the Holy Bible, sincerely seeking to know God personally, asking Him to reveal Himself whilst you contemplate His written word.
When you embrace the challenge, this is what will happen to you.
You can become a child of the Living God right now, and begin the greatest adventure of all.
