By Bread Alone?
Q: Reading Matthew’s Gospel, I’m wondering what exactly are the words that proceed from the mouth of God that Jesus spoke of?
Pure Water of The Word
A: Wonderful question that proves you are not just listening, but hearing too. Keep going in that direction.
Here, in context, is the phrase to which you refer, Mtt. 4:1-4 KJV;
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The answer to your question is given by the Holy Spirit who recounts the episode in, Lk. 4:3-4 KJV;
And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
The Bible’s Dictionary
Notice; God’s Son tells us that we really live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, the Holy Ghost confirms in Luke’s account that includes, every word of God.
You don’t require any man to help you comprehend the Bible, Father will reveal and explain His written word to you personally, as you contemplate His Word.
There are Teachers in His Body, (as well as many more false-teachers).
Teachers direct us towards truth, but Father reveals Truth to each individual, and that Truth always conforms to His written word: The KJV.
The Holy Bible contains its own dictionary, clarifying itself.
Attend to My Word
You ask what are the words that proceed from God’s mouth, and He tells us Himself, every word of God.
Each and every single word spoken by God is absolute Truth, and can be trusted implicitly: Indeed must be, in order to please Him.
That covers every word written in the Holy Bible (the KJV in English), and every word spoken personally by God’s Spirit in each believer’s spirit.
The enemy of God attempts to subvert His word at every level; pumping out “Bibles” full of corruption; therefore, stick to the plain unadorned KJV, and learn Bible English to avoid that.
How you can be led by the Spirit of God: It is vital for new Christians to learn to listen to the Lord in their daily walk. He guides us by His Spirit in our spirits.
To be sure you are listening to God’s Spirit, and not your own thoughts, simply compare them with what God has written for us in the Bible. When you are truly attending to His Spirit, there will not be the slightest contradiction with what He has written.
Listening to God
We grow in confidence that we are listening to God’s Spirit, by soaking ourselves in His Word and obeying it.
We sharpen our deepest integrity, and begin to really walk with God.
Keep your flesh-man under the control of the Holy Ghost, and you’ll not be distracted by feelings and emotions.
Physical sense-knowledge is carnal.
That is how the world walks. Christians walk by Faith: Not by sight or feelings, see The Fickle Mistress.
Start now, discover how easy and delightful it is, and you’ll never want to stop following Christ.

As you familiarize yourself with the KJV’s more formal language, it becomes much easier to comprehend. By keeping it as your base reference, and reading it in the Spirit, you will be less likely to be led astray by false teachings.
