False “Pentecostals”
Q: What’s your opinion of the “Oneness Doctrine”? I have recently met someone who believes this teaching. Dave
A: Weird aren’t they? They carry the sheen common to many cults; it reminds me of processed cheese.
It claims to be cheese, is labelled as cheese, and may even contain a trace of milk; but one taste is all it takes to prove it is not cheese, it’s junk.
These artificial “Pentecostals” are the same.
I come across them whilst I’m street witnessing, and like Mormon zombies, they work in pairs, one keeping an eye on the other.
“Oneness teaching” is Wrong, and Demonic in Origin
It’s held by several cults who falsely claim to be Pentecostal, notably the UPC (United Pentecostal Church) and others.
Their main errors are that they deny the Trinity, they say God is one, not three distinct persons in one.
- They deny that Jesus is Almighty God in the Flesh.
- Their water baptism formula is wrong; they reject baptism in the Name of the Trinity (as given in Mtt. 28:19), and they believe salvation only comes after water baptism, not before.
- They also falsely claim that unless you have tongues you are not saved.
Hair-raising stuff. That should be sufficient to set off every alarm bell in your spirit.
They spend their time processing each other with these heresies, and arguing their complicated doctrines.
Like most cults they are also very legalistic.
They give genuine Pentecostal Christians a bad name
I’ve learned to avoid being distracted by cults and concentrate on the job Christ has given us until He returns. I respectfully suggest you do the same.
Here’s a couple of useful tips:
Periodically re-examine your presentation of the Gospel message, and make sure it is biblically correct, and clear.
Keep in mind this rule of thumb: If a ten year old child in an Asian tribal village cannot understand your Gospel, then you’ve made it too complicated.
Gospel is simple, so keep it simple, just like Our Saviour did in His Ministry.
Counterfeits
Q: Do you believe that Satan has a counterfeit for all things holy? David
A: That’s an interesting question David. I’m not sure I’d go as far as to say “all things holy”, being careful not to go beyond what the Bible tells us. 1 Co. 4:6. But the Bible makes clear that the Devil has counterfeited many of God’s works and ways.
All religions, for example, are the Devil’s creation; false prophets, counterfeit signs and wonders, counterfeit gifts of the Spirit, false believers, false leaders, false Christs, and so on. Ro. 1:25, 1 Th. 2:9-12, 2 Co. 11:13, 2 Pe. Ch.2 etc.
The wonderful thing is that when you stick close to the Lord, He warns you very clearly when you come across anything dodgy, so you can both avoid and expose it. Eph. Ch.5.
