Is Genesis True History?
Q: Or allegory, poetry, symbolism, and myth?
A: Those who are born of God have no hesitation answering: Of course Genesis is literal history, every word of the Holy Bible (KJV) is absolutely true.
Anybody who thinks Genesis is symbolic, allegory, or a myth, needs to wake up, listen to God, and repent of their foolish unbelief before it is too late.
Three Infallible Witnesses
Here’s three basic reasons why we know that the Genesis accounts of Creation, the Fall, and the Flood are historical reports.
- The Holy Bible says so
- The LORD Jesus Christ said so
- Creation says so
1. The Written word says so
Genesis is history because God’s word tells us so: It is basic Bible doctrine that God’s word is infallible, inerrant, absolute truth. The Holy Bible (KJV) consistently recounts Genesis directly as history, not allegory. So Genesis is history.
2. The Living Word says so
Genesis is history because God came in The Flesh and spoke to us, using Genesis as history, straightforward historical data, to confirm His preaching. For example:
To illustrate that marriage is between one man and one wife Christ cited the Genesis Creation of Adam and Eve, and God’s ordination of marriage. He recounts it as historical fact in Mk. 10:6-9 KJV;
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Christ is referring to Gen. 1:26-28 and 2:18-25, His history reference book.
If you deny the historicity of Genesis, you deny God in the Flesh.
You won’t deny Christ will you?
Christ taught Genesis as history, so we believe it is history.
Another illustration comes in Lk. 11:50-51 where Christ cites the complete A to Z of the Prophets “from the foundation of the world“; He knows the Genesis account of Creation and Abel is factual history. Abel was an historical person, like Adam, his father.
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
Christ spoke of the people mentioned in Genesis as real flesh and blood persons, not poetic myths, not allegory, not symbolic, but historical humans He created.
We also notice that Christ taught that the Earth is young, not billions of years old, because 4,000 years after Creation, Christ came, and said mankind was present at the beginning of creation. Mark 10:6 KJV;
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
He’s talking about the six days of Creation of the cosmos, and all the life on Earth.
That kills stone dead all nonsense about “Gap theory” and “Theistic evolution”.
There are many more examples of Christ using Genesis as literal historical data.
So we believe Genesis just like He does.
3. All Creation says so
The self-evident fact of this glorious Creation confirms the Bible account in Genesis.
Atheistic science is doomed by its own delusions.
Every new scientifically proven fact confirms the Genesis account of Creation.
Unbelieving scientists tie themselves in knots concocting ever more bizarre theories to explain how the Universe “made itself from nothing”.
To grasp how foolish that idea is say it out loud.
“The Universe, and everything in it, made itself from nothing.”
And grown men actually believe that, just like I used to.
Christians have no place for such foolishness.
Only God’s historical account in Genesis fits the evidence before our eyes.
A few simple examples;
Where’s the Salt?
The Bible says the Earth is 6,000 years old: Secular science claims it is billions of years old.
It cannot be so old because the oceans would contain far more salt than they do.
Massive quantities of sodium are washed off the land into rivers and seas each year, and only about a quarter of it is removed. The oceans would have filled up with salt millions of years ago if the Earth was old.
No observed science can account for this major discrepancy. The reason being, the Earth is 6,000 years old, exactly as the amount of salt in the seas indicates.
Earth’s Magnetism
The rate of decay of the Earth’s magnetic field gives a maximum age of 10,000 years.
Science has no reasonable explanation how the magnetic field could have endured millions of years. The truth is, it hasn’t, because the Earth is only 6,000 years old, as the Holy Bible says.
The Moon is Much too Close
Our Moon drifts away from Earth 4 cm. each year. If the solar system was billions of years old, Earth and Moon would have been so close in the past they would have collided catastrophically.
There are many more illustrations of the folly of the “old Earth” myth propagated by Neo-Darwinians for the last 150 years.
The history book of Genesis teaches us the truth; that Almighty God created all things, and true science always has, and always will, confirm the Genesis account of history.
