Q: Is Corona virus a punishment from God, like the plagues of Egypt in the Bible?

A: I suspect the legalists will seize the opportunity to draw that conclusion, but not exactly; it is another of the self-inflicted judgments, and curses, Adam’s progeny have brought on themselves, by persistent rebellion against The Truth.

In the same way that the emergence of HIV Aids, in the 1980’s, was emphasised by the legalist bandwagon to be; “God’s judgment on perverts and the sexually immoral”.

Such sinners do indeed come under God’s wrath, but, rather than a direct Judgment of God on; sodomites, lesbians, junkies, and fornicators, it is an inevitable consequence of following the sinful nature, unto death and Hell; as plainly enunciated in the Holy Bible, Romans 1:23-32 KJV;

…And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Reprobate Minds

Notice the difference; sinners bring divine judgment on themselves because they prefer sin over righteousness.

When God’s Judgments are pronounced specifically on wicked idolaters, as in the example you cite, of stubborn Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses, they are even worse than the results of curses in the cases above.

Every firstborn in Egypt perished overnight, but not every fornicator dies of HIV Aids.

Heed God’s Warning

And never forget: God’s Judgments are eternal, not merely during this life.

Fear God, and flee from idolatry and sin of every form, or perish in outer darkness forever, Mtt. 22:13-14, 25:30 KJV;

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.

Spiritual Hypoxia

The recent Corona virus purge is a result of man’s accumulated rebellion against the word of God, not a divine pogrom on sinners.

In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die

It is no surprise that it emerged in Central China.

Trekking in remote parts of Asia, I often come across smouldering campfires strewn with the gnawed remains of unclean animals, and live specimens are sold in rural Asian markets; rats, shrews, voles, bats, Pangolins, Hedgehogs, venomous toads, snakes, lizards, monkeys, Gibbons, insects, grubs, and unmentionable body-parts of reptiles and top carnivores are a prized delicacy amongst rich Asians: All consumed entirely with the creatures’ blood and juices.

The Fulness Thereof

Under our New Covenant of Grace, believers may now eat whatever is sold in the shambles (meat-market), but the moral aspects of God’s Law are still to be honoured by Christians, as are sensible rules of personal hygiene.
