Should my Faith Grow?
Q: I’m sort of confused. I know that the only thing I can do to be saved is believe Christ died for my sins. Should I worry about how big my faith is? Keith
A: Keith, allow me to add four important points:
After believing in your heart that Christ died for your sins, you must believe in His Resurrection, confess Him as LORD with your mouth, and receive Him into your heart to be saved.
Salvation Basics
- Heart belief in Christ’s perfect substitutionary Sacrifice for you
- Declaring Him to be Lord: God in the Flesh
- Believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead
- Receiving Him by Faith into your heart as your Lord
Plenty of nominal “Christians” have never actually done this, they have head-belief, mental assent, and so will perish in Hell, because they’ve neglected what the Bible says you must do to be born again.
There’s only one way to be born again: Not by a creed, not by church membership, water-baptism, or head-belief: So make sure you have been saved the Bible way. Romans 10:8-10, John 1:12 KJV;
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Ever Increasing Faith
You ask, should you be concerned how big your faith is?
Certainly; Christ often rebuked the first Twelve for their lack of faith. He also endorsed several others for having great faith; for example, the Centurion with the sick servant, the Canaanite woman with the demon-possessed daughter.
These outsiders had more faith in Christ’s power than most of the Jews in the crowd following Him.
God’s plan for us is abundance of; life, love, and ever increasing faith in Him. Mtt. 6:30, 8:26, 16:8, 2 Co. 10:15, Col. 1:10, 1 Th. 3:10, 2 Th. 1:3 etc.

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God
It is not a matter of striving for faith; nor going through “spiritual exercises” seeking more faith.
It’s more akin to a child growing from babyhood into an adult.
Feed it what it was created for, and it just grows.
Feed it junk, and it withers and dies.
Peace and faith come as we read God’s written word, hear God’s word, believe the word, trust and obey the word, and mature in Christ, expecting God to do what His word says.
This is the food that nourished Christ all His life on Earth.
Remember, Bible faith has corresponding actions, it is more than talk. Jas. Ch.2.
It’s a tragedy to become stationary and backslidden.
God’s plan is for you to be transformed with ever increasing glory as you follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, 2 Co. 3:18 KJV;
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Together with more faith in action, the Lord enables us to abound and increase in love. 2 Pe. 1:8 and 1 Th. 3:12 KJV;
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.
Walk in Love and Learn How to “Saith”
Faith, expressed as love, moves mountains.
Today, if your faith only moves mole-hills, make Christ’s words in Mk. 11:22-23 KJV your aim;
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
