What about Dirty Dreams?
Q: Can a dream be sin? Larry
A: Certainly, if it originates from within the person, and is unrighteous.
God judges the unrighteous for their thoughts, motives, words, and actions.
In fact, He reminds us the main reason He wiped every sinner off the face of the Earth, apart from Noah and his family, was because, Gen. 6:5-6 KJV;
…GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
To make that righteous judgment, and statement, the LORD had to know every thought of every person on Earth.
He still does, because Almighty God is omnipotent and omniscient; unlimited in power and He knows everything.
What’s On Your Mind?
That includes the thoughts and imaginations of your heart (spirit).
Most dreams are endogenous, all mine are, except those God gives me. I don’t allow Satan a look-in, because I have used my God-given authority to keep demonic dreams and nightmares far from me, so his night-terrors (Ps. 91:5) don’t get near, no matter where I sleep. (As a missionary here in Asia, I often have to sleep in the enemy’s demonic strongholds, and He keeps me safe, just like He kept Daniel in the den of lions.)
It also includes the thoughts, and imaginations, of your mind, (you can learn to distinguish your mind from your spirit), 1 Ch. 28:9 KJV;
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
Ps. 94:11 KJV reminds us of the gulf between human and divine minds;
The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
The LORD Jesus Christ (God in The Flesh) knew men’s thoughts immediately, by the Holy Ghost; Mtt. 9:4, 12:25 KJV;
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
And Jesus knew their thoughts…
He still does.
God’s Word discerns thoughts
Heb. 4:12 KJV summarises God’s omniscience succinctly;
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
(Note: This verse means the written word of God; and do you think the Living Word of God is any less capable than the written word that He embodies? Therefore, this scripture is applicable to Christ as well.)
Dreams are what you think whilst you “day-dream”, and sleep at night.
God knows them all.
Help! I’m in Big Trouble!
Q: How can I cleanse my spiritual life from dirty thoughts and dreams?
A: If you are having sinful dreams, and thoughts, examine your fellowship with God, and your life.
If you are troubled by; dirty thoughts, unrighteous dreams, night terrors or nightmares, turn to God in repentance, believe His Word. Then you will sleep the sleep of the righteous.
Walk wholeheartedly in the light with The LORD Jesus Christ, using your authority to bind Satan, and claim God’s blessing like King David did in Psalm 4 KJV; (“leasing” here means lying. “Selah” means pause to think.)
Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Walk in the Word, and these blessings will be yours, Prov. 3:24, Ps. 127:2b KJV;
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet… he giveth his beloved sleep.
Keep your eyes on Christ, and your thoughts on Him. Heb. 2:1,9, 12:2. Listen to God’s Word.
Be holy, stay clean, and get rid of everything pulling you towards carnal desires. That is your part.
Remember, you are responsible for the bulk of what enters your eyes and ears.
What are you filling them with?
Live Right Before God
Throw out the Radio and TV, cancel all magazines, and newspapers, then use the funds to finance your evangelism outreach.
Think how many tracts for prison-visiting you could buy instead.
You will find that, as you walk in fellowship with Christ, He will give you holy and sweet dreams. Just as He’s written in Psalm 4:4 KJV;
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Bringing Your Thoughts into Obedience
Remember the promise of God to the New Covenant believer, and why we have His power in us… 2 Co. 10:5 KJV;
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Believe that word, and you will find you are able to control your thoughts and dreams, ensuring they please God.
Pleasant dreams.
