Q: If a person lives their life; according to their conscience, is true to their convictions, and to themselves, surely God would be evil to throw them into Hell when they die?
A: I sense a philosopher at hand!
Philosophy is for losers, please consider a safer pastime like sword-swallowing.
Navel-gazing invariably heads downhill to; depression, mania, drug addiction, psychosis, and more often than not, suicide.
There will be multitudes of wailing sinners at the Final Judgment trying to plead: they were true to their consciences, and did the best they knew how, according to their religion.
All will be condemned as idolaters, and cast away, eternally lost without hope of redemption.

No Sinners in Heaven
The LORD Jesus Christ is The Judge, and He doesn’t judge according to our personal moral standards, He judges us in His perfect righteousness by His words as in: The Holy Bible, which is the KJV in English. Rev. 20:11-15 KJV;
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Sinners are judged by God’s Word according to what they; believed, thought, said, and did.
Because no sinner ever has, or ever will, measure up to God’s Standard, all are cast into the Lake of Fire: The Second Death.
Being True To Yourself is Self-Condemnation
The answer to your question is an unqualified No! Sinners being true to themselves is idolatry, the snare of self-righteousness, which leaves them mute at their Judgment, and thrown into eternal Hellfire.
The truth is not within any unsaved person, to mentally unearth by their reasoning, values, and beliefs. Rom. 3:4 KJV;
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Philosophy is a Dead-End
That’s why philosophy is vanity; a tail-chasing Greco-Roman pagan venture of undiluted futility. As King Solomon, the wisest man on Earth concluded, Ecc. 1:16-18 KJV;
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
What Is Truth?
Truth is not a conceptual mental framework: Truth is a Person; Your Maker.
The God-Man: The LORD Jesus Christ, who said, Jn. 14:6 KJV;
I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Notice the three definite articles: Only God in The Flesh could make such a pronouncement.
When you meet Him, you meet your Creator, when you know Him, you know the Absolute Truth.
You discover that there is no other.
The Carpenter from Nazareth is Almighty God in The Flesh.
Dare to read His words and see what happens.
You Are Not Reading This By Chance
The fact that you’ve asked this question is evidence God’s on your case.
Our time on Earth is short, so be wise and use it to attend to Christ’s words in the Gospel of John, in the KJV, with a receptive heart.
Adam’s Offspring Have No Truth in Them
The first man forfeited his relationship with Truth when he disobeyed God, and thereby cursed his descendants, who are all born devoid of Divine Truth because of the innately sinful nature we inherit from Adam. (Gen. Chs. 3-4)
Nobody is ever born with God’s Truth in them, so they can never find it in themselves, neither in their conscience, convictions, religion, or opinions.
Hitler, Stalin, George Bush x2, and Tony Blair were true to themselves, held to their demonic dogma, and claimed to follow their consciences, but will be found out, and justly disposed of at The Judgment.
Judged By The Word of God
Our Maker is Judge, and He does not judge according to our; conscience, opinions, values, honesty, or integrity: He judges according to His written word: The Holy Bible.

Creation Points to Almighty God
God’s Book makes plain that each of us is without excuse, Rom. 1:19-20;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
The creation reflects our Creator’s; nature, wisdom, character, power, and abilities, its profound beauty, order, complexity, and providence, point every sentient person to Our Creator.
Anybody who genuinely seeks God will soon find The Almighty pointing them to His Only Begotten Son: The LORD Jesus Christ, The Only Saviour.
Halleluia for His Mercy to sinful flesh.
Receive Christ Now
Any sinner can come to Christ, and be made a righteous saint, through trusting in Him, and His words, and Receiving Him as their LORD.
Father God accepts every sinner who calls on the Name of The LORD Jesus Christ, and makes them righteous instantly, as though they had never sinned at all.
He’ll wash you clean from the inside out, so that henceforth you’ll delight to follow; His leading, His Spirit, and His Word.
Being led by your own fallen spirit, or any spirit other than The Holy Spirit, is a sure path to Eternal Torment in Hell.
Man is Born Bankrupt: Devoid of Truth
It’s not in a man to know his way: God has to show him The Way, and lead him in righteousness. As the Spirit of God speaking through the Prophet Jeremiah declared, Jer. 10:23 KJV
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
Summary
Sinful flesh cannot walk with Our Creator no matter what philosophy, or bespoke religion the sinner follows. Everything of his own making is plain idolatry: His opinions, his beliefs, the work of his mind, his hands, his fallen nature.
It’s easy to perceive the blatant self-deception of the idolater who fells a tree, then uses part to fashion an idol to pray to, whilst the remainder he burns as firewood to cook and warm himself.
Idolatry is folly, yet has been ubiquitous for millennia.
Realise that philosophy and religion are just as much idols, man-made mental artifacts, vain attempts to satisfy the inner need for Truth.
Born Once: Die Twice
If you’ve not yet been Born Again, you will certainly die twice.
If you haven’t yet met the LORD Jesus Christ, come to Him willing to forsake your idols, embrace the Living God, and you’ll find He satisfies your needs as you trust His words enough to put them into practice.
He’ll fill you with; His peace, His Love, His eternal Life, and put His Spirit in your heart to direct your steps in righteousness.
You couldn’t have that when you were in your sins, but when you receive The Saviour He’ll transform you into a saint in Him, and He can abide in you.
This is the Good News He’s told us to share with every creature.
