Or His Name above His Word?
Q: Psalms 138:2 seems to elevate God’s Word above God’s Name, yet I have always understood that God has put His Name over all; The Name above all names. etc. Can you make sense of this for me?
A: You’ve been listening to those arguing over scripture, instead of attending to the written word in the Holy Ghost.
People fuss needlessly over this brief and beautiful Psalm, often wrongly concluding “a comma has been missed out, or it’s been mistranslated”. But, there is no error anywhere in God’s written word, the KJV, Ps. 138 KJV;
(A Psalm of David.) I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
Prove the Pudding
Don’t just read the word, do the word and the LORD will open your spiritual eyes wider yet.
- Praise The LORD Jesus Christ always, with your whole heart. Do that.
- Before the “gods” of this decadent idolatrous world, sing with joy for what Christ has done for you. Do that.
- Worship The LORD from your heart wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Do that.
- Praise His Name because of His lovingkindness, and for the absolute Truth of His Word. Do that.
Then you’ll comprehend…
Now I See Him!
For He has magnified His Word above all His Name!
I purposely changed the capitalization and pronouns there so you’ll see it plainly.
Come on you Saints!
His Word is the perfect representation of His Name, that is; His Name is totally invested in His Word, and His Word is completely identified with His Name.
Christ Jesus represented both perfectly in His Flesh.
How much more, now that He has been glorified, Halleluia!
Hindsight in Heaven
Consider also; as though you have been in the Glory, worshipping for a thousand years, Almighty God, The Lamb on The Throne, The Living Word, The Glorified LORD Jesus Christ… then reflect on such needless discussion of this scripture on Earth. How ridiculously blind it will seem then!
“They just didn’t get it!” we will say amidst the praising Saints.
His Word is Him, He is His Name, His Name is Him. They are invested in each other always.
Just as the Word, The Spirit, and The Father are all One, though distinct.
I think that’s how the confusion arises.
His Word is not above His Name in status, nor vice versa, so don’t try to imply that: They are both distinct, and both One: Above all!
If you are still confused, ask Father to open your eyes further.
