aka. Song of Solomon
Q: Who is this coming up from the desert leaning on her lover? What does this mean to you? Frank
A: You refer to SoS 8:5 KJV;
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?
The Hebrew scripture indicates that this rhetorical question is posed by observers, denoted as “Friends” in some English translations.
So it appears to be another delightful reference to the Church and Christ; the saved and the Saviour, the Bride and her Bridegroom, believers and their LORD.
These women have found something far more exciting than romance. They don’t fret over wrinkles and grey hair, because they have the Perfect Man, and He makes them more beautiful each day.
This fits with the flow of the Song:
Earlier, in SoS 3:6-11 we see King Solomon used as a representative, or “type” of the Lover Himself, the Messiah: The LORD Jesus Christ.
There He’s arriving in glory to collect His Bride for their wedding.
Later, in chapter eight, the Bride and Groom are together zooming out of the wilderness.
You could also perceive the Rapture foretold in this verse.
Exciting stuff! But don’t forget we have work to do down here.
It is Gospel sinners need to hear from us, not our insights into the Old Testament.
It is the Gospel that contains the power.
When you proclaim the Gospel: The Power will be with you to confirm it.
