Eat Right: Live Right
We read about Christ’s secret diet Jn. 4:34 KJV;
My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Christ’s life depended upon Him doing the Will of His Father. He called it His meat, His food. Obeying God the Father nourished God the Son spiritually.
There’s a powerful lesson for us there.
Faithful Obedience is Life and Growth
By “finish his work” the LORD meant providing our eternal redemption by ushering in the New Covenant, having fulfilled the Old Covenant for us.
He finished Father’s work, and offers total salvation and perfect redemption.
We receive them freely, without works, a gift of God’s grace, simply by believing in the LORD Jesus Christ.
Our heart-faith in Him, His Sacrifice, and His resurrection, seals the deal with Almighty God, and He acquits believers of all guilt on that basis alone.
Christ’s Blood, sacrificed on the altar in Heaven, testifies for us. We are free!
God’s Blood speaks a better testimony than the blood of Abel. Heb. 12:24 KJV says believers have come to;
Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Abel’s blood cried for God’s Judgment. Gen. 4:10.
Christ’s Blood pleads for mercy and grace. Heb. Chs. 9-10.
It is why we worship Him evermore.
Mercy Triumphs over Judgment
When the religious crowd asked what works they must do to please God, and enter Heaven, Jesus told them, Jn. 6:29 KJV;
This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Here, Jesus teaches believers to feed on God’s Word, the Living Christ, and be nourished spiritually by doing God’s Will.
Note: We do God’s Will because we have been saved, not to earn salvation.
Doing God’s Will results in us growing in Christ.
An interesting parallel
Believers can also echo Christ’s word, Jn. 4:34 KJV;
My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
In the New Covenant context; our food, our meat, is to believe in the One God sent, Christ the Saviour, and to finish His work.
Since Christ has finished Father’s work, what work do we have to finish?
Until He returns, we are to continue proclaiming the Good News of salvation, releasing captives of sin, bringing them into God’s Kingdom.
Jesus promised, Jn. 14:12 KJV
Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Christ’s primary mission was to provide eternal salvation by establishing the New Covenant of grace-by-faith in His Blood.
Our mission is to proclaim this New Covenant Good News to the ends of the Earth, teaching disciples until He comes back for us.
He lived by doing Father’s will: We live by believing in Christ.
He finished His Father’s work and provided our perfect salvation.
We now finish Christ’s work of reaching the lost, in His Name, and by His power.
Let’s be busy!
