Praying Always in the Spirit
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Holy Bible, Jude 20-25 KJV
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Eph. 6:18 KJV
Here we have the written word of the LORD telling us how to build ourselves up on our faith by praying in the Holy Ghost, praying always in the Spirit.
That means in tongues, as well as with your understanding in your mother tongue,
The written word of God tells us plainly that praying in tongues as the Spirit leads is praying in (or with) the Spirit, 1 Cor. 14:14-19 KJV;
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
What is it then?
I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
Ministration of The Spirit
What’s often missed in fellowships is that praying in tongues, like speaking in tongues, must be as the Spirit leads: Not as the flesh leads!
(Remember, there’s a great difference between speaking in tongues and praying in tongues.)
It’s possible to pray in tongues in the flesh, which is a waste of time, because it’s done apart from the Spirit’s administration and leading.
Smith Wigglesworth confirmed this over a century ago. The evidence of his life attests and proved Smith knew what he was talking about.
Wigglesworth didn’t fall into grievous sin, like so many big-name preachers of recent years, so we pay close attention to him, and ignore those who had some success, but were soon snared by sin.
Here’s a snippet of a five-part article of SW teaching, where he talks about the misuse of the gift of prophecy, but the same point applies to the misuse of tongues.
“The Use and Misuse of the Gift of Prophecy” by Smith Wigglesworth
God Can: You Can’t
Never think that gifts can ever be of any source whatever, only on the lines they have to be exercised, wrought out by the power of God.
You must never allow yourself to be led into any trap to use the gift. If you do, you will surely have trouble in your life.
Have WE not Prophesied in Thy Name?
You must understand that all the gifts are to be made manifest for the glory of Jesus.
Everything that you have come heir to, since you came into the fact of salvation, everything from that day, without exception, has been, and must continue to be, for the glory of God.
If it is not, you will find yourself amongst the wood, and the hay, and the stubble. 1 Cor. 3:11-13 KJV;
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
There is nothing going to be of any importance to your life, or any other lives, only that which is gold, and silver, and precious stones: Something that cannot be destroyed by fire.
Perhaps like a novice, you’ve used tongues in the flesh, but when you use tongues as the Spirit wills, you’ll notice the difference immediately.
Father doesn’t find fault with us for missing His leading, but He does want us to grow and become sensitive to His Spirit, and keep our flesh hidden Under His Lordship.
Purpose of tongues
Oh Glory, have you been there? God wants you there. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries… He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself. 1 Co. 14:2,4 KJV
Beloved, enter into the Promise of God. It is your birthright, your inheritance. You need to be filled and overflowing to fulfil God’s plan for your life. When you are, you will have the Bible proof; you will Speak in Tongues.
