Q: Why is it that phrases are often repeated when speaking in tongues?
A: Firstly, understand the huge difference between speaking in tongues, and praying, or praising, in tongues.
Completely Different Purposes
The commonest misunderstanding concerning tongues is the false idea that speaking in tongues is the same as praying and praising in tongues: They are very different in use and in purpose.
Much confusion is present in the body of Christ because some imagine every use of tongues is ‘speaking in tongues’: It is not.
From God to the Fellowship
‘Speaking in tongues‘ is an appellation best reserved for the public use of tongues in delivering a message from God to edify the body, and it must always be interpreted into the language of the fellowship.
This is the use of tongues mentioned in 1 Cor. 14:27-28. These tongues messages are given by the Holy Ghost for a particular occasion, so they rarely contain repetition because He is bringing a specific word of comfort, edification, and instruction, and He determines which believer speaks the tongues, and who brings the interpretation. Often the same individual believer, sometimes another person, but they must be interpreted.
From the Believer to God
The use of personal tongues in praise and worship is under the control of each individual believer, to be used in their private prayer closet, or in believers meetings. These tongues need not be interpreted, but can be, if the believer wishes to know what the Holy Ghost is praying through him or her.
Endless Praise & Worship
Give these facts some thought and you will surely comprehend why personal tongues do contain a lot of repetition, as led by the Holy Ghost.
Believer: Do you ever tire of proclaiming in your mother-tongue; Holy, Holy, Holy! Halleluia, Halleluia, Halleluia! Glory, Glory, Glory! or Praise you LORD?
Of course not, nor do the angels, creatures, or elders around the Throne of God.
Heaven Gets Loud: Halleluia!
If you are averse to such repetition, you are not going to enjoy Heaven, because it is a sound that will resound for eternity, Rev. 4:8-11 KJV;
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
How can a believer’s heart, filled with the Holy Ghost, filled with the same Spirit who raised Christ from death & Hell, ever stop overflowing with praise and honour for the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world?
Notice:
…they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Day and night forever, you will hear that proclaimed from the heart of Heaven.
It says it all doesn’t it Saints?
Continual praise cannot stop, nor ought we cease praising Him in both; the tongues of men, and the tongues of angels. (1 Cor. 13:1 KJV)
Father Wants You Filled With His Spirit
Secondly; if you do not yet have the Acts 2 experience of fullness of the Spirit of God, you will not be able to praise God as He desires during your brief pilgrimage in this valley of death.
But let those who have come into this wonderful blessing of God, loose your praise and thrill Our Heavenly Father, no matter what trial you are going through.
Will you join me in giving Him glory all you saints!
Holy, Holy, Holy! Halleluia, Halleluia, Halleluia! Glory, Glory, Glory!
